Tenterden u3a meets on the third Thursday in the month at 2.00 p.m. until 4.00 p.m. in St Mildred's Church Hall, Church Road, Tenterden. There is a speaker at the Monthly Meeting from September to July and an opportunity to meet other members over tea and a biscuit. "Come to a meeting and see what we are about".
The Christmas meeting is often more interactive and festive: we have had quizzes, a local version of 'Desert Island Discs' and an imaginary trial with the audience acting as the jury, and a talk on the history of Christmas.
Every fourth Friday we have a "Drop in for Coffee" at The Vine in the High Street between 10.30 and 12.00. Members, new members and anyone considering joining are very welcome.
Each year we normally organise a Study Morning. Follow the links to learn more about past Study Mornings.
MONTHLY MEETINGS
2025
Monthly Meeting and AGM, 2pm
Thursday 15 May
Barbara Lawrence: Wotan’s Daughter: The Life of Marjorie Lawrence. Born on a farm in
Victoria, Australia, Margaret Lawrence made her New York debut at the Metropolitan Opera in
1935 and became one of the great Wagnerian sopranos of the twentieth century. Stricken with polio at the height of her powers, she recovered to perform and teach from a chair, and became the subject of a Hollywood biopic, Interrupted Melody. Barbara Lawrence tells her aunt’s extraordinary story, with a mix of fascinating photos and personal memories.
Annual General Meeting
Immediately before the lecture, we will hold the AGM. Notices, the agenda and forms to nominate Committee members have already been circulated. Proxy voting forms, with the names of those nominated, go out on 24 April so members unable to attend can return their proxies by 14 May. We must have a quorum (at least 15% of the May 2025 membership) for votes to count. So please come to the meeting, if you possibly can, and send in your proxy vote to Rennie if you can’t make it to the hall.
