Tenterden Folk Festival 2020
1-4 October 2020
More information coming soon
This year your festival starts on Thursday evening with the AKF sponsored fundraising concert. This is the only event not covered by the Full Weekend Tickets and features Will Pound and Eddy Jay with support from other festival guests. The Town Hall is an ideal venue for this friendly concert.
The festival continues until late Sunday night with concerts, music and song sessions, workshops, English Barn Dance and many other events. The guests this year include some old friends of the festival and some who have not been to Tenterden before such as Dan McKinnon from Canada, The Snapes, Stan Graham and Eddy Jay. Other guests such as Will Pound have been to Tenterden as part of a band or a Morris side but are here this year in a different capacity.

The Festival continues to attract Morris sides and dance display teams from far and wide, including regular teams and some new ones. They take to the streets of the town centre on Saturday and Sunday together with other street entertainers. It looks as if we will have many more dancers on the Sunday than in previous years while still maintaining the number performing on the Saturday. Dancers include local Morris sides from Kent and Sussex as well as visiting teams from throughout England and our friends from Slovakia. Dance styles will include Cotswold, Border, Molly, Clog and Garland, as well as Appalachian, Bollywood and other international traditions and styles. If you would like to see and try some Bollywood dances catch up with the Be Bollywood dancers.
The popular procession on Saturday starts at 3pm near The War Memorial in the High Street, passes through the town centre to finish on the Recreation Ground by the marquees. There you will see more displays of dancing on the stage in the marquee.
Concerts and Folk Clubs
Festival guests can be seen at our main concert venues throughout the extended weekend. These include the Tenterden Club, Town Hall and The Saddlery at The White Lion. Check the map to locate all the venues.
Song and music sessions
The numerous friendly and informal sing-a-rounds and song and music sessions are, for many, one of the highlights of the Festival. Sessions take place in four pubs so there is sure to be one that suits your taste or mood. Come along and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere even if you do not want to take part.
Workshops and meet the guest sessions
The Festival also offers the opportunity to attend other events which may offer the chance to participate, ask a few questions or just sit and listen, and informal talks on folk related topics. Check out the diary section for full details.
