Friday, 2 September – Katharine Hook
Sloe Seduction
Katharine Hook founded a cottage industry 11 years ago, Sloe Seduction, which produces products using sloe gin and chocolate, including the award winning Sloe Gin Truffle. She produces thousands of chocolates from September to December and enjoys a very different job the rest of the year. Dark chocolate with a white chocolate ganache filling laced with Sloe Gin is how these are described. The ethos of Sloe Seduction is to be adventurous, explore ingredients and have fun. We will learn about the origins of gin, sloe gin and cocoa. Come along and all will be revealed.
Friday, 7 October – Steven Moore
Perennials to Extend the Season
Steven Moore and his wife Morag run a small plant nursery on about an acre of land which was once a corner of a field on his uncle’s farm. Rapkyn’s Nursery in Broad Oak has been in operation now for 30 years and now boasts a vast collection of plants. They grow all their own plants and have around 60 varieties of salvia. Whilst his talk will concentrate on how to use perennials to extend the season, he will also talk about the history of the nursery and he will explain how they operate. There will be some seasonal plants for sale after his talk
