This half term, the entire family can get together and travel in style aboard a real steam train to take a trip back in time through the beautiful Rother Valley. Exclusive private compartments are available for up to 8 passengers in a family group or socially-distanced tables are available in our open-plan carriages for bubbles of 2 and 4 passengers.
The railway is a haven for wildlife, being a non-pedestrian corridor through the valley and we’re encouraging our visitors young (and young at heart!) to learn more about the wildlife they can see from the train. Families in half term will receive a spotter sheet and a guide to the railway line along with details of our most commonly seen birds and animals. There are online links for the whole family to learn more about each type of creature and their habits and habitats. Children who have completed the trail will be awarded a certificate and sticker as “Nature Detectives” on the day.
The journey to Bodiam takes approximately 50 minutes and there is a short rest at this beautiful country station to give the family a chance to watch the steam engine reposition to the front of the train for the return journey. The station café will be open for drinks and light refreshments. Book online to save money on all fares.
Visitors looking to make the most of their visit to Tenterden, can enjoy the delights of the varied café’s, restaurants and pubs, take a visit to the Tenterden Town Museum - located between the station and the High Street - and there is a delightful children’s playground on the recreation ground at the end of the High Street with picnic tables that can be enjoyed by all the family. For those looking for an afternoon tipple, the Old Dairy Brewery is located behind the railway station and has a selection of excellent ale! Chapel Down winery and Biddenden vineyards are also within easy reach by car if you’d like to take home a bottle or two!
