Tenterden Memory Cafe | Tenterden Dementia

The Tenterden Memory Café, run by Jan Bridger and her dedicated team, continues to take place every Friday afternoon from 2–4pm at St Andrew’s Parish Centre, providing a warm and welcoming space for people with memory problems or dementia, together with their families, friends and carers. The atmosphere is informal, with refreshments, homemade cakes, and a programme of entertainment, speakers and quizzes. Most attendees are still living at home, but some also come from local care homes accompanied by staff or relatives. The café is free to attend, with voluntary donations helping to cover costs.

 

When there is no pre-booked entertainment, the group enjoys a social afternoon, usually with a game of bingo – always a very popular choice.

In addition to the Friday café, there are two other regular activities which provide further opportunities for social connection and wellbeing. The Monthly Lunch Club meets monthly at Groves Restaurant, Tenterden Garden Centre. Meanwhile, Musical Memories run by Vicki Dodds takes place every Tuesday from 10.45am–12 noon at Highbury Hall. This is an uplifting “come and sing” session, where participants enjoy music together – not only great fun, but also scientifically proven to support good health and a real feel-good factor.
