ABOUT THE FLOWER FESTIVAL
In the week that has celebrated the key workers and all that they have done through the pandemic and 73 years of the NHS, St Mildred’s Church, Tenterden held a flower festival to say thank you. Thank you to the Keyworkers including all those involved in the NHS.
The Flower Festival was held on 9th, 10th and 11th of July 2021 and was rainbow themed following on from the adoption of this symbol by the NHS. It was part of the the local school art project which has seen installations popping up throughout the town.
We are thrilled and enormously grateful to have had so much support from local businesses in putting together this festival:
The Bathroom Shop in Tenterden sponsored an arrangement thanking builders and all those involved in maintaining utilities
Dandara generously sponsored our central arrangement which had all the colours of the rainbow. This was dedicated to teachers and staff involved in the welfare and teaching of children.
TW Fuggle and Son sponsored an arrangement thanking undertakers
GMP Accountants had an arrangement dedicated to accountants
Ivy Court Surgery kindly sponsored an arrangement dedicated to all the work of the NHS
NFU Mutual (Tenterden) sponsored an arrangement dedicated to farmers and insurance agencies.
Pinecove Nursery produced a window display in yellow
Tenterden Garden Centre generously sponsored an arrangement which was dedicated to all the garden centres that gave us hope of colour and fruit in our gardens
Whitehead Monckton’s arrangement thanked solicitors, lawyers and all those involved in the justice system.
Other arrangements paid homage to the Charities that have kept links open for their
beneficiaries, all the Scientists who pulled together to create the vaccine, the Broadcasters and Journalists, the Clergy, the Armed forces, Police and Ministry of Defence, the Waste Disposal Operators, the Royal Mail, Fire and Rescue and Transport.
There was live music during Saturday - a couple of local members from Tenterden local drama group sang songs and a local pianist (Francis Yonge) performed for the first time in public a song she wrote during the pandemic ‘Thank you for Calling’ - it is hauntingly beautiful. Thank you to all the people who came to see our displays and hear the songs and added thanks to all those key workers that have done such a brilliant job over the last year.
All proceeds from donations were split between The Old School House Larder which has
provided food packages throughout the pandemic to families in need and the Transforming of St Mildred’s Church making it fit for purpose in the 21st Century.
Thank you to all businesses who donated raffle prizes - World of Water, Montalbano, Pinecove, Keith Frances
