We normally meet on the last Friday of each month in Woodchurch Memorial Hall at 7.30pm unless otherwise indicated. Bring your telescope/binoculars if the weather is clear.  Our meetings are open to all ages, but children under 16 must be accompanied.
Friday 31st March 2023: How the Sun could kill the internet – The Carrington Event of 1859… a solar flare heads towards Earth and causes mayhem across the planet. What if we experienced another one tomorrow? Local author Drew Wagar examines what would happen to Earth and what the consequences would be for humanity.

Friday 28th April 2023: The First Spacemen – Jason Thompson tells the story of the early years of the space race, and how the first astronauts and cosmonauts made their way into space and the history books. Please note this will also be the meeting where we hold our AGM.

Friday 2nd June 2023: Telescope Workshop – Steve Walker and Ewan Vellacott return to provide practical advice on how to get the best out of your astronomical equipment (Please note this is our ‘May’ meeting rescheduled due to hall availability)

Friday 30th June 2023: Neptune – A Calculated Guess – We are delighted to welcome Andrew Loud back to AAS for what is certain to be a spectacular and informative presentation on the outermost planet of our solar system.

Friday 28th July 2023: TBC

Friday 25th August 2023: Summer Social and Observing Evening – Our annual informal gathering to chat about astronomy and (hopefully!) observe the summer night sky.
