On 8 May 2025, we mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, our nation will unite to celebrate 80 years of peace since the end of World War II in Europe. VE Day 80 is not only a tribute to those who fought for freedom but also a powerful reminder of the resilience and unity that have defined our country ever since.
Programme
- 9am Reading of the VE Day 80 Proclamation next to the Tenterden Recreation Ground Beacon
- 6.30pm Church Bells ring from St Mildred's Church. Together We Chime—Let the Nation’s Bells Ring Loud!
LIGHTING OF THE BEACON
- 8.30pm Service of Thanksgiving by Churches Together
War time/military music will be played
- 9.20pm Start of Lighting of the Town Beacon by the Freemen & Freewoman of Tenterden
- 9.30pm Town Beacon Alight. A Global Tribute. Beacons and Lamp Lights of Peace will shine across the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, and UK Overseas Territories—symbolising the enduring strength of our communities. From city squares to village greens, we will stand together in gratitude, honouring the sacrifices that secured our freedom.
- 9.30pm the Town Mayor Councillor Sue Ferguson will read out the International Tribute
- 9.40pm Prayers St Mildred's Church ministers
- 10.00pm Close of Celebration
Together, we honour the past and celebrate a future built on unity, hope, and peace.
