The Mildred Trust : Creating equality of opportunity for people in rural communities in and around the Tenterden area, especially but not exclusively for people experiencing food insecurity.
Our projects include:
Community Fridge
Open in the entrance hall at the Leisure Centre seven days a week during centre opening hours. Community facility everyone welcome to share either to donate surplus perishable food or to collect some. This reduces both food waste and food insecurity. Details of acceptable donations are on the fridge but please only donate fresh perishable goods that are within the use-by date. No fresh meat or butchery or fish items are permitted.
Community Shop
Open at the Leisure Centre every Monday from 1.45-2.45pm.Freely available to ANYONE finding it hard to make ends meet. No eligibility criteria. Select groceries to the value of £20 and only pay £6. Cash only.
Old Schoolhouse Larder
Free non-perishable groceries, household and hygiene goods for families with children under the age of 18. Fresh bread, milk and vouchers for fruit and vegetables are often available. Tuesdays at EC30 from 5.15-6.15pm and The Family Hub, Recreation Ground Road on Fridays from 9.30-10.30am.
Family Foodbank
Foodboxes containing non-perishable groceries to supply three days worth of meals are available in an emergency for anyone finding themselves out of food due to loss of job, family breakdown etc. Available at Ivy Court Surgery , Monday to Friday, 8am to 6.30pm amd Saturday 8-11am and EC30 Monday to Friday 9am-3pm and Saturday 10am to noon.
Lots of differing volunteer roles are available.
