On Thursday 11 May 2017 Tenterden Rotary Club together with friends and our speaker for the evening Damian Green, held a short candlelit vigil to mark our support for the international Rotary Against Slavery Campaign. Rotary clubs around the world are taking part in similar vigils this month to raise awareness of modern slavery which although illegal, exists in almost every country of the world. Sometimes described as Human Trafficking, slavery is thought to be the fastest growing international crime affecting 35 million people.
Our speaker Damian Green, our MP until the dissolution of parliament, then entertained us by recalling some of his experiences over his career as a politician and the perils of canvassing to the electorate.
