Tenterden Methodist Church and Memorial Organ
Closed 19 May 2024
Tenterden Methodist Church has a rich history, dating back to the first Wesleyan Methodist chapel built in 1797. The current church, which stands today, was completed and opened on 29 April 1885, costing £1,633 at the time.
One of the church’s most significant features is its World War I Memorial Pipe Organ, made by Griffen and Stroud. Installed in 1919, this organ serves as a tribute to the local residents who lost their lives during World War I. It is one of only three surviving World War I memorial organs in the UK. In 2019 the organ was restored by Alistair Curtis.
Sadly, Tenterden Methodist Church closed its doors on 19 May 2024, marking the end of an era for this historic site.
