Tenterden & Isle of Oxney Community First Responders (CFRs)
Community First Responders are volunteers who are trained to respond to RED1 and REDS2 emergency calls through the 999 system, in conjunction with the South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. We are not a replacement for the Ambulance crews as they will always be dispatched as well.
Over 130,000 people die each year in the UK due to cardiac arrest (RED1). It has been proved that the quicker a patient who has suffered a sudden cardiac arrest is treated with a defibrillator, along with continuous effective Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), their chance of survival can increase by up to 75%. An ambulance crew will do their best to be with the patient within 8 minutes; however, a Community First Responder could be with the patient much sooner than that.
