TENTERDEN BOWLS CLUB HISTORY
Written in 2008

Founded in 1908 with a four rink Green behind the White Lion Hotel the early history of the Club has been lost in the mists of time. However, Neil Warwick of Golden Square did play there during the 1930's as did his father before him. In 1964 the new six rink Green was opened in Recreation Ground Road and the Club still plays there at the present time. About this time a Lady's section was formed and from about 1985 matches have been played with mixed teams of Ladies and Men. One or two of the highlights of the last few years have been the winning of the Cinque Ports Mayor's Trophy in 1988, successfully hosting the same Tournament in 1999 and in 2004 winning the Premier League Title of the Weald League. Over the past twenty years with much hard work, generous donations and loans from members and other sources the Club has installed an automatic watering system, our own toilets and a new clubhouse. The Green itself has improved immensely with the advice and work of our professional greenkeeper together with that of the Greens Committee.

New members are always welcome and free tuition is available to anyone wishing to take up the game. We look forward to celebrating our Centenary Year in 2008.
