Tenterden resident Ann Robertson with the Queen Mother in 1982. From the Kentish Express in 1982 "A Royal seal of approval proved the fitting culmination to four years' work when the Queen Mother formally opened the Pilgrim's Hospice in Canterbury. Before she unveiled a commemorative plaque, the Queen Mother congratulated "all those who, by their generosity, devotion and skill, have made possible the building of this hospice". And she prayed that everyone at the hospice would find happiness and peace of mind. The Queen Mother's visit marked the realisation of a dream which began on 17 May 1978, with the launching of the East Kent Hospice project. Nearly £500,000 has been raised by volunteer efforts to create the hospice, equip and staff it so that dedicated care and attention can be given to 20 terminally ill patients". Mrs Ann Robertson was Chairman of the Pilgrim's Hospice in 1982
