St Mildred's Church in Tenterden dates from the 12th century and is Grade 1 listed. The imposing tower which is 130 feet in height, dominates the town's skyline, and was constructed in 1461. The tower is built of Bethersden Marble, a locally quarried Limestone containing many thousands of brightly coloured shells.
The church is open to visitors every day during daylight hours.

The Tenterden, Rother and Oxney Benefice was formed in 2016 bringing together the three parishes of the Tenterden benefice (Tenterden, St Michael's and Smallhythe) and the six parishes of the Rother and Oxney Benefice (Appledore, Stone, Wittersham, Ebony, Rolvenden and Newenden). Lindsay Hammond as Team Rector and Jeanette Kennett as Team Vicar both exercise a ministry of oversight across the whole benefice, supporting and enabling the individual churches, and ministry teams, and provide missional accompaniment for accountability and support.
