Right in the middle of Tenterden, next door to M&Co and opposite Lloyds Bank, there is a shiny, newly-painted, Dickensian shop front that looks as if it could be an antique emporium; but walk through the shop door and in a split-second, wow!, you are slap bang in the middle of the 21st century, because that dignified old shop front hides the new, super high-tech and high-style world of Tenterden Opticians. This is an optician like no other: here you will find the most up to date, cutting-edge, technology being used to test your eyes, and I don’t just mean testing to see whether you need stronger lenses than you did last year. I mean that when your eyes are tested here every aspect of their health, and consequently some more general health issues, are tested too, and on some pretty incredible, and mind-bogglingly expensive, gizmos. It is amazing what an eye test involves today, and also what a fascinating and rather entertaining experience it’s become.
But eyes do not see with lenses alone; woman…..well, actually, man as well, are both pretty fussy about what they put their Zeiss lenses into, so at Tenterden Opticians they have 1500 frames in stock and they have gone to enormous lengths to source some of the most beautiful frames from the best designers in the world. For example, this optician is the only place in Kent where you can get the prized Dita frames or the Victoria Beckham designs, but they also have frames from Lindberg, Cartier, Chopard, Coco Song, Cutler and Gross, Ray Ban and others. It’s rather ironic but some of these frames are eye-wateringly beautiful and I found myself pitying the perfectly sighted people who have no need to wear any of them. Go and see for yourself.
