FRAN SHARP BA
I was born and educated in New Zealand, but have lived in Tenterden, Kent for the past 40 years. I attended Wellington Teachers College where I majored in Mathematics and Art and subsequently studied for a BA degree with the Open University. At Teachers College I focussed mainly on screen printing and pottery. I was very lucky to have as a tutor the renowned New Zealand potter, Doreen Blumhardt. In 2010 I retired from teaching Mathematics, and have had time to indulge in my other interests, in particular painting. I have studied and worked with local artists. I am surrounded by beautiful Kent countryside and live near the sea, both of which are a great inspiration to me. I also like to travel to New Zealand and Europe. I am always enthusiastic to return to my studio and paint, working from photographs and memory. Initially I was enjoying painting with watercolours – mainly pots and flowers from my garden, however after attending oil painting workshops run by Fiona Graham Mackay I have found I love oil as a medium and my more recent paintings have been boats and seascapes, using oil.
