After months searching for the perfect new tenant to replace Laura Ashley in Tenterden High Street, Milroy House has announced that Hop Stitch and Jumper will be taking up residence, with doors opening to the public in August.

The shop will feature quality homewares and lifestyle items, alongside high-end haberdashery products, yarns and fabrics. Hop Stitch and Jumper is run by Symbol Family Support Services with the support of the Symbol Trust a registered charity.

In addition, there will be a separate shop accessible from Sayers Lane called Celestine. This will sell products for the mind, body and spirit such as crystals, oils and books. Both shops aim to offer products and services to reach all ages and interests. They shop will offer education, training and work to people with disabilities across Kent

Tessa Branch, CEO of Symbol says: “Taking on this lovely large shop in Tenterden will enable us to grow Hop Stitch and Jumper and bring Celestine to the local market, which does such important work supporting local people with disabilities whilst providing quality products and experiences to our customers. Our shop has proved extremely popular in Maidstone and we’re delighted to now bring it to the beautiful town of Tenterden. We hope to make a real contribution to the people of the town”

Robert Martine, Director of Martine Waghorn, was responsible for letting the shop on behalf of Milroy House. He explains that despite being approached by high street chains, he felt that given the unique nature of Tenterden, finding the right tenant was key. He says: “Tenterden has a special high street with a diverse range of independent businesses. It would have been irresponsible not to consider this when looking at potential tenants. We believe we have found the perfect answer in Hop Stitch and Jumper and Celestine.

“I’m sure local residents and shoppers will be over the moon to see this prominent high street shop in use again. We are delighted that the shop will be offering a high-quality and popular selection of products and also that it will be such a fabulous resource for local people with disabilities. It will add greatly to Tenterden’s appeal.”
