West Doors St Mildreds Church

Tenterden News
You will find the west doors at St Mildreds Church in Tenterden at the base of the church tower.
"The tower which is about 130ft in height, is built of Bethersden marble, a locally quarried limestone containing many thousands of brightly coloured shells. There are only three other such towers constructed using this stone, Biddenden, Smarden, and Headcorn. The double west doorway is probably one of the church’s most remarkable features, the only other example in Kent being in Lydd. There are only four other Parish churches in England with this unique feature, two in Norfolk, one in Wiltshire and one in Northamptonshire"
