The Poppy Appeal in Tenterden and St Michael's has had amazing success in this special Centenary year. At the time of writing, total donations received stand at £24,450, well in excess of any previous year. With some still to come, notably the Waitrose Community Matters donation, we are on track to achieve the incredible sum of £25,000.
Yet again, this is a huge community effort. Thanks are due to all the collectors, who braved varied weather conditions; to the shops and outlets which took in poppy trays and collecting boxes; and to the schools and youth organisations who supported us so enthusiastically, especially on Remembrance weekend. Particular thanks go to Tesco and Waitrose, who allowed our collectors generous access to their premises; to the staff of Tenterden Town Hall who allowed us use of their premises for distributing the trays and boxes; and to those individuals and organisations who organised events to support the Appeal. Above all, we would like to pay tribute to the residents of Tenterden and St Michaels who gave so generously to the Appeal.
This Appeal marks the last in the cycle of Appeals commemorating the Centenary of the Great War of 1914-1918. However, the work of the Poppy Appeal will continue and we will be back again in years to come to support the Armed Forces community. After all, "We will (continue to) remember Them".
