Tenterden Town Christmas Lights switch on event, Friday 24 November 2017, time to be advised.
Gather on the Town Hall plaza outside the Town Hall. The Town Mayor of Tenterden will process with other dignitaries from the Town Hall to St Mildred's Church for a short service, followed by a candlelit procession from St Mildred's Church to the Tenterden Rotary Club Christmas tree situated in front of the Town Hall, where the town Christmas lights will be switched on by the Town Mayor
This event is part of the very popular Tenterden Christmas Market (Friday 24 November - Saturday 25 November 2017)
THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS
The Tenterden Christmas Lights are organised by Tenterden Town Council and other groups in the town.
The Town Council is responsible for installing and lighting the majority of the large High Street trees (the avenue of large trees, selected large trees in the High Street, and selected trees on the Recreation Ground), the Tenterden Chamber of Commerce is responsible for installing and lighting the Fairings and East Cross Gardens, Coombe Lane and the small Christmas trees and lights above the High Street shop windows.
The Tenterden Town Christmas Tree outside the Town Hall is donated by Hole Park Estates in Rolvenden every year to the Tenterden Rotary Club for the town of Tenterden and is decorated by the Rotary Club with help from Scott Mitchell and his team from Mitchell Highways.
Other areas: Sayers Lane lights are installed and lit by a private company; the Market Square Christmas lights are organised by Messrs Edmonds from the London Beach
The St Michaels Christmas Tree is organised by St Michaels Village Community Group, and the Tenterden Chamber of Commerce add small Christmas trees and lights above some of shop windows. Tenterden Town Council install and light selected large trees. St Michaels Christmas Lights will be switched on one week later.
