Tenterden Town Christmas Lights switch on
Friday 24 November 2017

This year’s Light Parade theme is the Christmas story of the Snow Goose. Pupils from Tenterden Primary Federation and St Michaels Primary School will be parading from Tenterden Junior School to St Mildred's Church with beautiful willow lanterns and LED candles as part of the Christmas Lights Switch On event.

The Light Parade will travel from Tenterden Junior School along Recreation Ground Road and the High Street to Church Road and into St Mildred's Church. The A28 High Street - Road will be closed from 4.40pm-4.55pm from Recreation Ground Road to Bridewell Lane. Please be in Town by 4pm so you don't miss any of the fun. The light parade is part of the Tenterden Christmas Market (24-25 Nov), for more info about the Tenterden Christmas Market - stalls, entertainment, Santa
Visitors to Tenterden Christmas Market can join in and be part of this wonderful procession by carrying LED candles available from the schools or by purchasing one for sale in the High Street on the day.

The Tenterden Christmas Lights are organised by Tenterden Town Council and other groups in the town. The Town Council is responsible for installing and lighting the majority of the large High Street trees (the avenue of large trees, selected large trees in the High Street, and selected trees on the Recreation Ground), the Fairings and East Cross Gardens, and Coombe Lane. In 2017 it is hoped that there will also be Christmas trees at West Cross, the Fairings and The Fat Ox Green
The Tenterden Chamber of Commerce is responsible for installing and lighting the small Christmas trees and lights above the High Street shop windows.
The Tenterden Town Christmas Tree outside the Town Hall is donated by Hole Park Estates in Rolvenden every year to the Tenterden Rotary Club for the town of Tenterden and is decorated by the Rotary Club with help from Scott Mitchell and his team from Mitchell Highways.
Other areas: Sayers Lane lights are installed and lit by a private company; the Market Square Christmas lights are organised by Messrs Edmonds from the London Beach
The St Michaels Christmas Tree is organised by St Michaels Village Community Group, and the Tenterden Chamber of Commerce add small Christmas trees and lights above some of shop windows. Tenterden Town Council install and light selected large trees. St Michaels Christmas Lights will be switched on one week later.
