The centenary of Ebony Church at Reading Street, Tenterden (opposite the Tenterden Garden Centre) in 1958 was celebrated with a pilgrimage to Chapel Bank and the first ever Confirmation Service. Since then annual pilgrimages have taken place, the 1998 Pilgrimage was led by Archbishop George Carey and the 2008 Pilgrimage was led by Archbishop Rowan Williams. The 150th Anniversary of the Consecration of St Mary the Virgin at Ebony was celebrated with a special evening service led by the Rev Stella Halmshaw, the Vicar, and the Archdeacon of Maidstone, the Venerable Philip Down on Sunday 16 November 2008.
