The Tenterden society, or TDFAS, is one of 350 societies in the UK. Our society was founded in 1990 and became an immediate success, bringing together local people with an interest in the arts and a desire to share, extend and widen that interest.
We have ten lectures a year given by lecturers recommended by NADFAS as expert lecturers in their specialist fields. Other activities such as study days, day visits, extended UK visits, and cultural trips abroad are also arranged.
We have an active group of volunteers involved in Church Recording who are in the process of documenting all the churches in the Romney Marsh. We meet on the first Tuesday of the month, except January and August, at 10:00 am for coffee before the meeting which commences punctually at 11.00 am
If you are interested in joining the Society you will be most welcome to contact us. Membership is open to all. There is no need for any sponsorship, nomination or other means of supporting a candidate’s membership. All members receive a copy of the national magazine published quarterly by NADFAS which provides articles on arts subjects, news of NADFAS activities nationally and ideas about what is available for members, including courses, both at a national and local level. It also gives information about holidays arranged specifically for NADFAS members.
Anyone moving to our area (from beyond a 25 mile radius), who is currently a member of another NADFAS society, may be able to transfer their membership to TDFAS without waiting. For everyone else, the average wait for membership would be about 12 months, but we do encourage anyone who might not have time to attend meetings just now to think ahead and put their name down at the earliest opportunity.
Previously Tenterden Decorative & Fine Arts Society, National Association of Decorative & Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS). The membership voted to change the name to The Arts Society Tenterden in July 2017.
