This year's Tenterden Christmas Market is all about quality and talent; celebrating our local producers and crafters to create a unique experience for visitors and the community. Perfect for all the family, the event will run from 12 midday - 9pm on Friday 24th November 2017 and all day on Saturday 25th until 8pm.
Building on the profile of previous events, this year is set to be the biggest yet, with over 75 stalls located along the full length of the high street. Shoppers will be able to sample produce from well loved local businesses like Old Dairy Brewery, Biddenden Vineyards and Nightingale Cider; as well as buy direct from the makers, as we showcase over 30 crafters and artists. There is something to satisfy every palette from our local food and drink providers offering crepes, Thai, gourmet grill and hog roast, you can wash this down with a cheeky tipple or cosy up in one of the towns excellent coffee shops and restaurants, enabling you to make a full day of it. 2017 will see a number of 'firsts' for the event. On Friday 24th watch the Christmas light parade; make sure you're in the town to see children from the Tenterden Schools Trust parade down the high street at 4.30pm with glowing lanterns and candles, led by 3 large snow geese! The parade will make its way to St Mildred's Church where members of the public, the Mayor of Tenterden, the High Sheriff of Kent George Jessel and town Mayors from across the county, will attend a short service. The official town lights switch on will commence from 5.30pm with snow machines running all evening!
To build on the festive spirit over the 2 days, there will be 4 entertainment areas along the high street, celebrating our local musical and performance talent…..see The Rubies and Deborah Smythson plus the Homewood School Oliver production cast and the Ashford pantomime team delivering extracts from this year's Rapunzel.
No Christmas event would be complete without a visit to see Santa and the reindeers…. The sleigh and reindeers will be parked outside Warner Gray Estate agents on Friday evening and the fabulous Santa's Grotto will return to welcome children on Friday and Saturday, located behind the Woolpack pub.
The great thing about Tenterden is its location, easily accessible and less than 30 minutes from junction 9 on the M20. You can even arrive in style by steam courtesy of the Kent and East Sussex Railway using the Rolvenden Station park and ride.
Says Tenterden Mayor Cllr Justin Nelson: "The Christmas lights are always a wonderful festive feature, and we have worked hard to ensure they are as bright and beautiful as ever. "The Christmas Fair organisers have done a terrific job bringing together the market stalls, with local produce, crafts, festive foods and beautiful gifts, showcasing some of the remarkable talent there is in Tenterden and the surrounding villages
"Our Christmas Market, twinkling lights, street entertainment and a very special atmosphere make the event one of the most eagerly anticipated in the county's seasonal calendar."
Natasha Mahoney, Christmas Market coordinator says "Although competing with bigger more established events, Tenterden Christmas Market is unique due to the quality and local nature of the exhibitors" "we are very much looking forward to welcoming people from Kent and the surrounding area and encourage everyone to buy local."
Seren Welch, volunteer team says "The 2-day Christmas event is a great way to support the local economy. We’ve listened to local businesses and worked to shape an event that we hope delivers a long-term benefit to the town. We're really thankful for all the support we've received especially from our event Sponsor, Dandara Homes.
