Tenterden Rotary Club Speaker 14 Jan 2016 : John Rivers: Tenterden and Isle of Oxney Community First Responder for South East Coast Ambulance Service. A Community First Responder is a local trained individual who can get to an emergency within minutes and help the patient until the ambulance arrives. CFR’s in rural areas such as John Rivers, our speaker, cover a 6-mile radius from home. The scheme has been running nearly 3 years. John is able to administer oxygen, he carries a defibrillator and can treat asthma attacks as well as administer first aid. If a defibrillator is used within 8 minutes of a cardiac arrest, there is a 75% chance of recovery.
