WHY DOTTY DIVA ?
You may be wondering why a shop is called ‘Dotty Diva’ and you may be thinking that it is because this shop has madly flitted about Tenterden in a dotty sort of way at the behest of some crazed opera star – well it has had three locations in as many years, but I didn’t see too many temperamental singers about the place. Anyway, it has now found the perfect home in The Old Auction House, which is a small barn cum-warehouse just off Tenterden High Street behind The Secret Pantry. Walk into this lofty setting and you will find it crammed, literally from floor to ceiling, with all kinds of exciting and different gifts, soft furnishings and brilliant design ideas. It’s more an Aladdin’s Cave than anything that’s either dotty or diva-ish. Well, perhaps it is just a little bit dotty!
But tempting though all the things on show are, this is so much more than just a shop – this, more importantly, is also a workshop: this is where the Dotty Diva herself (real name Michelle) runs all sorts of courses using the famous Annie Sloan Chalk Paints to help you create your own ‘things’ and gifts. She will teach you, for example, how to transform a tired old piece of furniture into something, new, exciting and usable in a modern house. It isn’t possible in this space to list everything that you can do at this dotty shop, but there’s all sorts of proper hands-on stuff and the possibilities are endless. When you see the workshop area you just want to get stuck in.
You can see what Michelle has done and that will inspire you to tickle your own creative juices into life. You’ll love it. If you step into Dotty Diva be prepared to be there for quite a long time.
